Since finishing university in 2001 Grant has worked in the creative arts with major national performing arts companies, international games ceremonies, films, TV, theatre, ballet and opera. He began his career in the mailroom at Opera Australia and since then has held roles in arts administration, backstage, rigging, production management, freelance set building and construction management. Grant has travelled Australia and the world for work, before settling back in his hometown of Wollongong with his wife and infant son after a long absence.
Then David Thomas called.
Grant has been the Project Manager at Thomas Creative since that fateful day in 2017 and loves it. His desk is a semi-organised mass of coffee stains, plans, job files, set models, interesting products he thinks our clients might like, interesting things he likes and a photo or two of the family. Grant is passionate about his job and industry and feels fortunate to work with a team of designers, artisans, and tradespeople that believe there is no excuse for poor design or construction – which is lucky because he likes it here, and by now thinks he may be unemployable outside of this environment.
Outside of work Grant seeks family, friends, fun and adventure. Highlights include 12 months of riding motorbikes through South, Central and North America with his fiancé, riding to the most southern point of Argentina, struggling to survive altitude sickness on the Bolivian Altiplano, getting married by Elvis in Las Vegas and now 10 years later, riding dirt bikes with his son, much closer to home, or sometimes just walking the dog.
